Oxeno is expanding its oxo alcohol production capacity at the Marl site by 60,000 metric tons per year with a new 2-propylheptanol (2-PH) plant. 2-PH is a starting material for the manufacture of plasticizers for PVC and is used mainly in cables and films.
In response to rising global demand for plasticizers, the new 2-PH plant will supplement the existing isononanol (INA) business.
Oxeno already has an annual INA capacity of 340,000 metric tons, making the facility the world's largest single production plant for this plasticizer alcohol. Oxeno also believes it will be Europe's largest producer of C9/C10 plasticizer alcohols.
Plasticizers transform brittle PVC into a flexible material, thus permitting wide use of the polymer in consumer products. They are components of, for example, floor coverings, cable insulation, tarpaulin fabrics, various automotive components, and films.
