First occupant of tarlog area: Philippine-Saarpor to build production facility in RÜTGERS industrial park

09.05.2012

The Philippine-Saarpor Group has announced plans to build a production facility for EPS/Styrofoam insulation materials on the tarlog area for a sum in the double-digit millions. Sven Eckhardt, managing partner of the Philippine-Saarpor Group and Herbert Knorr, managing director of RÜTGERS, signed an agreement on the use of a 50,000 m² area in the industry park. Construction is to begin in late 2012, and the finished facility will create 25 to 30 jobs.

tarlog area is an industry park on the premises of RÜTGERS in Castrop-Rauxel, which is marketed by tarlog GmbH. The first contacts between Philippine-Saarpor and RÜTGERS had been established by Dr. Joerg Marth, the head of the ChemSite initiative.

“The industrial site offers comprehensive infrastructure and has ideal logistical connections, creating optimal conditions for our future growth,” said Sven Eckhardt, the managing partner of Philippine. The new plant will use the existing energy supply and additional service offers at the site. “The total investment in Castrop-Rauxel will be in the double-digit million range, with completion scheduled for 2013,” continued Eckhardt.

tarlog managers Herbert Knorr and Volker Schmitz welcomed the decision of the insulation materials manufacturer. “The company is an ideal partner for the further expansion of tarlog area, which clearly meets all requirements for a perfect manufacturing location,” noted Knorr, who is also the managing director of RÜTGERS Germany GmbH. “We are particularly pleased that marketing the logistics and infrastructure concept of tarlog has been so successful,” added Schmitz.

Production of insulation materials for construction
Philippine-Saarpor plans to build an additional production facility for innovative insulation materials made of expanded polystyrene (EPS)/Styrofoam with optimized insulation performance. The Philippine-Saarpor Group already holds a leading position in this market segment in Germany. Further market growth is expected to result from the energy transition in Germany, as insulation materials made of EPS/Styrofoam allow for a significant reduction of primary energy consumption in buildings. All EPS/Styrofoam products are certified with an environmental product declaration of the Institute for Construction and Environment (IBU), which refers to the production process, installation, and the entire lifecycle.

tarlog area
tarlog GmbH, a joint venture of the RÜTGERS Group and Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport), develops and markets the available space in the RÜTGERS industrial park, also known as the tarlog area. After the initial settlement process, tarlog supports interested parties with comprehensive solution packages for rail transport, logistics, and on-site services.

Another 100,000 m2 are still available for industrial development at the tarlog area. The site offers ideal conditions for companies with high energy use in sectors associated with the chemical industry. The area offers approved conditions for permits under the Federal Emissions Act and features an independent energy supply primarily based on steam and electrical power along with the modern infrastructure of a state-of-the-art industry site. In addition to road and rail, the tri-mode traffic connections of the premises also include a dedicated harbor facility, which provides international transport connections through the Duisburg harbor.
