RÜTGERS Chemicals is expanding production at Castrop-Rauxel. The company is investing 10.6 million euros in a second CARBORES® production facility which is due to be commissioned at the end of 2009. The foundation stone for the new project was laid today at a ceremony also attended by Johannes Beisenherz, Mayor of Castrop-Rauxel.

Recycle Fuel Technology GmbH (RFT) will build a new, state-of-the-art production facility in the Marl Chemical Park for chemically processing rubber waste, particularly used tires. RFT will invest about €16 million at the Marl Chemical Park, initially creating a total of 16 new jobs in production.

Infracor GmbH is constructing a new building complex just outside the gates of the Chemical Park. In the first phase of construction, 84,000 square meters of leased space will be created on Lipper Weg. The individual buildings—laboratories, test centers, and warehouses—are being built separately so that each can be individually designed and expanded as required.

Three years have passed since the start of planning and construction for the new sulfuric acid splitting unit. Infracor, the Chemical Park’s service provider, took over the unit from Oxeno and has extensively renovated and expanded it.

Germany-based Evonik Industries AG will invest a two-digit million euro figure to expand laurolactam production capacity significantly at its Marl site. The new capacity should be available in the second half of 2009. Plans for a further capacity expansion have already begun. Laurolactam is the starting material for the polymer polyamide 12, which is enjoying steadily growing demand in new markets.

Evonik Industries AG is expanding its oxo alcohol production capacity at the Marl site by 60,000 metric tons per year. The alcohol 2-propyl heptanol (2-PH), which is used as a starting material in the manufacture of plasticizer for PVC, used for example, in cables and films, will also be produced there for the first time. The 2-PH facility is scheduled to come on stream in the latter half of 2009.

In March 2000, 2-butene-1,4-diol (B2D) production was suspended due to capacity bottlenecks in the plant producing butanediol, the main product line of ISP Marl, and relocated to Texas City. But production in Marl Chemical Park has recently resumed.
