The ChemSite Initiative is a public-private partnership launched in 1997 by the chemical industry, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (produced with financial support from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union) and local authorities in the Ruhr region. It forms an umbrella for all activities in the chemical industry value stream in the region. In the Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia, the initiative offers seven ideal production locations with a total area of 240 hectares available for investors from the chemical, processing and related industries.
Five of the seven are traditional high-technology locations that have grown over the years, offering highly developed infrastructure and unique integrated material supply systems. The two other locations are ideal for chemical processing operations.
