Together with the Gelsenkirchen-Scholven plant, the Horst plant forms an integrated refinery. The two plants are linked by a pipeline system. Apart from oil processing, which takes place at both plants, BP Refining & Petrochemicals GmbH operates two crackers for the production of ethylene and propylene at Scholven. These feedstocks are used by companies such as Sabic Polyolefine GmbH for producing polyolefins at Scholven. Focus: Oil products and petrochemicals, especially olefins, aromatics, methanol, ammonia, gases. Plant area: 300 ha (751 acres). Available area: 19 ha (50 acres) (89 ha (220 acres) from end 2007). Infrastructure: Pipeline link to the inland ports in Horst and Bottrop, highway access, plant rail system with cargo handling facilities and national link, crude oil pipelines from Rotterdam and Wilhelmshaven.
